Abernethy Way between 232 Street and 224 Street Watermain Replacement

Metro Vancouver is working in cooperation with the District of Maple Ridge and the City of Pitt Meadows to undertake a major water utility infrastructure project involving the construction of a large pump station and watermains. The new system will connect to the existing Metro Vancouver reservoir servicing Maple Ridge as well as providing new connections directly into the District of Maple Ridge water distribution system. Abernethy Way Road Widening (210 St East of Blackstock St)

The District is planning to acquire additional road right-of-way along 128 Avenue (Abernethy Way) from 210 Street to East of Blackstock Street in 2012 to accommodate future widening to a four lane standard. The timing of the four laning will be dependent on traffic projections and demands. The District may also be considering incremental improvements along 128 Avenue in 2012 to address present needs for capacity at intersections as well as pedestrian safety. Metro Vancouver is planning to install a Greater Vancouver Water District (GVWD) water transmission main along 128 Avenue from 210 Street to 224 Street in 2013 or 2014. In order to avoid constructing in the roadway and having major traffic impact, the District has requested that the watermain be constructed in the widened road right-of-way, away from the travelled pavement surface, after additional right-of-way has been acquired. The District is also planning to construct a multi-use path in 2013 for pedestrians, bikes and other users that is separated from the roadway in the widened right-of-way following the GVWD watermain installation.

Alouette Rivers Floodplain

The "North Alouette and South Alouette Rivers' Assessment and Floodplain Analysis" study has been awarded to Northwest Hydraulic Consultants. The consultant assembled a strong team of engineers and specialists, and completed a strong science-based hydraulic modelling of the floodplain area, complemented by a detailed hydrologic analysis, with a spotlight on the prediction of relatively frequent floods as well as extreme events. All three phases of the study are complete and the consultant is preparing the final report. The ultimate goal of the modelling will be to provide the community with a tool to aid in the understanding of flood issues and the knowledge to use this tool to develop community driven solutions to flood problems. Meeting notes, reports and Workshops are available online.
