If you are a Maple Ridge Resident, 19 years or older and lead a safe and healthy lifestyle you could become a member of the Maple Ridge Fire Department as a paid-on-call firefighter.
Recruit Training
Once candidates are selected they proceed to 17 weeks of Recruit Training. The Recruit Training Schedule is composed of 68 hours of theory, 100 hours of home study and 272 hours practical training.

- Fire Department Procedures and Organization
- Fire Behaviour and Sciences
- Uses of ALL Firefighting Equipment
- Live Fire Training
Probationary Training
After successful completion of Recruit Training, candidates proceed onto eight month Probationary Training which includes:
- First Responders, Level III with AED and spinal certification
- Auto extrication
- Hands on experience while responding to fire emergency calls
- Haz-Mat
- Entry level technical rescue
At the end of one year, the successful probationary firefighter obtains their NFPA 1001 Firefighter IFSAC accredited certification.
